SERIES: MYTHS READ AGAINST THE SCIENCE

Infertility is not an established GLP-1 risk, pregnancy timing is the real concern

Infertility is not an established human label signal here. The source-backed concern is pregnancy planning and fetal-risk avoidance, especially semaglutide's two-month washout window before planned pregnancy.

01

What Shapes Fertility

Fertility is shaped by weight, metabolic health, menstrual regularity, ovarian function, age, sleep, other medications, and underlying conditions. For people with weight-related fertility problems, weight loss can support a return of regular cycles.

For people in a steep calorie deficit, fertility signals can shift the other way. That's a property of the deficit, not specific to these peptides.

What the Label Says

Semaglutide labels such as Wegovy and Ozempic point to stopping at least two months before a planned pregnancy because of the long washout period.

The signal in the label is a planning window, not a proven human infertility outcome. Animal data suggest the pathway can affect ovulation biology at weight-loss-associated doses, so the honest claim is narrower: human infertility is not an established label outcome.
